Botanical Cyanotype
Botanical cyanotypes are created through a process as alive as the natural forms they capture. Cyanotype is not a static or mechanical medium—it's a living chemistry. This process responds intimately to the natural elements around it: shifting with changes in humidity, temperature, light, and even the pH of water or the acidity and alkalinity of the plant materials themselves. No two prints are ever the same because the conditions of the environment and the chemistry of the plants are never identical.
Using foraged plants and handmade cyanotype solutions, I create photograms that reflect the fragile and fleeting beauty of the natural world. Pressed onto sensitized paper, the plants reveal delicate veins, textures, and forms invisible to the naked eye. Each print tells a story—not just of the plant, but of the day it was made. I guide it, but I don't control it.
I find beauty in this unpredictability, which mirrors the uniqueness of life itself. Like a fingerprint or a snowflake, each cyanotype is one of a kind—shaped by the chemistry of the plants and the shifting moods of the world around them.
